Brian Rogers – Play-by-Play Broadcaster
IceCaps Play by Play Broadcaster Brian Rogers is a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, who has spent the majority of his 40 year Radio/TV Broadcasting career here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Rogers first arrived in this province back in 1975 when he worked with CFLN in Happy Valley Goose Bay before moving to St. John’s and 930 CJON in the spring of 1977. After returning to Nova Scotia a year later where he spent 5 years in the Halifax, Kentville and Truro markets, he returned to take a full time position with 590 VOCM in late January of 1983 and has called Mount Pearl, NL home ever since. Amongst his many duties at VOCM included Sports and Music Director posts along with various on-air shifts in the Afternoon Drive and Evening Rock slots before being named as the late George McLaren’s replacement as the voice of the AHL’s St. John’s Maple Leafs prior to the 1994-95 season.
Rogers left VOCM after 16 years in 1998 to become a full time employee of Maple Leafs Sports Entertainment led by Glenn Stanford. He spent three years as Account Executive with the popular Newfoundland Sportsman Outdoors magazine before joining the IceCaps organization in the summer of 2011.
Brian resides in Mount Pearl with his wife Joan and daughter Ashley.
Brendan McCarthy – Colour Commentator
Brendan McCarthy has been a member of the sports department at The Telegram since 1991, and during that time has worked as the beat reporter for the newspaper’s coverage of the American Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
He has covered numerous AHL and QMJHL playoff games and All-Star Classics, in addition to the 1999, 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2011 Canada Summer and Winter Games.
Brendan has been a regular contributer to Rogers TV, and numerous radio programs across the country.
He is a winner of the AHL’s James Ellery Award for excellence in newspaper writing and is the author of ‘Forward Thinking: The Danny Cleary Story’ published in 2008.
Robin Short – Colour Commentator
Robin Short has been writing sports for The Telegram for 26 years, the last 20 as the newspaper’s sports editor.
Robin coordinated and contributed to The Telegram’s coverage of the St.
John’s Maple Leafs for 14 years, and the three-run of the St. John’s Fog Devils in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
A four-time winner of the Atlantic Journalism Award for sports reporting, Robin has reported on countless sporting events, but lists covering the 2006 Torino Olympic Games, 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games and the 2008 Stanley Cup Final series as his highlights.
Robin also authored ‘Rock Stars: Team Gushue’s Road to Gold’ and had a column ‘What’s hockey’s all about’ published in ‘Trent Frayne’s All-Stars: An Anthology of Canada’s Best Sportswriting.’
