The IceCaps sit fifth in the Atlantic Division and 13th overall in the Eastern Conference, five points back of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the eighth and final playoff spot. Binghamton, first in the Eastern Conference, has the best winning percentage (.711) in the American Hockey League. SEASON SERIES (BNG 1-0) Dec. 31: BNG 4 STJ 2        Four different players scored for the Binghamton Senators as they defeated the St. John’s IceCaps 4-2 in a New Year’s Eve tilt in New York. Mike Hoffman, Shane Prince, Derek Grant and Mark Stone (into an empty net) gave the Senators their 19th victory of the season. For the IceCaps it was Maxime Macenauer scoring early and Paul Postma late, as the club finished its tough eight-game road trip on a losing note. ICECAPS NOTES LAST TIME OUT Jan. 19: STJ 1 NOR 0 The St. John’s IceCaps bounced back from a tough overtime loss Friday to grab two points in a 1-0 win over the Norfolk Admirals Saturday at The Scope in Norfolk, VA. Spencer Machacek, fresh off a week-long training camp in Winnipeg, scored the game’s only goal in the second period, notching his ninth of the season to tie him for the team lead. Eddie Pasquale stopped all 28 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season. Both teams were unable to capitalize on the plethora of power play opportunities. St. John’s went 0-for-8 with the man advantage while Norfolk went 0-for-5. QUICK HITS Forwards Spencer Machacek and Max Macenauer, as well as defenceman Derek Meech, were all returned to St. John’s by Winnipeg late Friday. The trio played in Saturday’s 1-0 win at NOR, with Machacek scoring the only goal and Macenauer drawing an assist… G Eddie Pasquale picked up his 10th win and third shutout of the season Saturday… F Ben Maxwell is the only IceCap to have suited up in each of the team’s 40 games. INJURY REPORT F John Albert returned to game action this past weekend after missing the previous 18 games with an upper body injury. Injured: Jason King (head), Shawn Weller (finger), Hunter Tremblay (concussion-like symptoms), Aaron Gagnon (undisclosed), Mark Dekanich (hamstring), Ivan Telegin (undisclosed). STREAKS and LEADERS F Eric O’Dell saw this three-game goal streak and four-game point streak come to an end Saturday… F Jason Jaffray has a point in three consecutive games (1G, 3A) and leads the club with 22 points (6G, 16A)… F Spencer Machacek’s goal Saturday moved him into a tie for the team lead with O’Dell with nine and into second in game-winning goals with a pair.SENATORS NOTES RECENT ACTION Jan. 19: BRI 4 BNG 2 The Binghamton Senators had their three-game win streak snapped Saturday as they were defeated by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-2, at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Cole Schneider and Mika Zibanejad both scored for the Senators while Marc Cheverie made his Binghamton debut, making 24 saves in the loss. BIG LOSSES With the NHL starting up this past week, the Senators lost both goaltenders to their NHL club in Ottawa. Robin Lehner was having a stellar season for Binghamton, compiling a 14-5-1 record with a 1.90 GAA (third) and a .945 SV% (second). Ben Bishop’s numbers were also good: he was 8-3-2 with a 2.59 GAA and a .928 SV%. The duo joins Craig Anderson in Ottawa, as the club will carry three goaltenders for the time being. The B-Sens also lost F Jacob Silfverberg to the big club in Ottawa. The Swede still leads the B-Sens in scoring with 29 points (13G, 16A) in 34 games. QUICK HITS Joining head coach Luke Richardson as Senators representatives at the 2013 AHL All-Star Classic are Lehner and D Andre Benoit. The 29-year old rearguard has 25 points (9G, 16A) in 34 games for Binghamton… D Eric Gryba is third overall in plus/minus with a +21 rating… F Derek Grant’s four shorthanded goals are good for first in the AHL. His four shorthanded points rank him second.
