    ST. JOHN’S, NL – Netminder Niklas Svedberg made 31 saves and stopped all five IceCaps in the shootout as the Providence Bruins slipped past the St. John’s IceCaps 3-2 Saturday night at Mile One Centre.

    St. John’s, NL – The IceCaps wasted a terrific effort by goaltender Mark Dekanich in dropping a 2-1 decision to the Hamilton Bulldogs Wednesday night at Mile One Centre.

    Eddie Pasquale turned in his best performance of the season, making 45 saves as the St. John’s IceCaps defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-1 Tuesday night at Mile One Centre.

    ICECAPS vs. BULLDOGS The St. John’s IceCaps (7-8-0-0) host the Hamilton Bulldogs (5-6-1-1) Tuesday at Mile One Centre. This is the first of eight meetings between the teams this season. LAST SEASON The IceCaps went 4-3-0-1 vs. the Bulldogs in 2011-12, including a 2-2-0-0 mark at Mile One Centre. The Bulldogs defeated the IceCaps in their inaugural home opener on Oct. 14, 2011 with a 4-0 shutout. Spencer Machacek and Carl Klingberg led St. John’s with seven points each in the season series and both recorded hat tricks against Hamilton at Mile One on separate occasions. ICECAPS LAST TIME OUT Darcy Zajac had two goals and Jeff Frazee made 21 saves in the third period alone to guide the Albany Devils to a 5-3 win over the St. John’s IceCaps Saturday night at Mile One Centre. Mark Dekanich suffered just his second loss of the season for St. John’s (7-8-0-0), allowing five goals on 33 shots. Ivan Telegin, Max Macenauer and Jason Gregoire scored for the IceCaps while Jason Jaffray picked up a pair of assists. BULLDOGS RECENT ACTION The Toronto Marlies defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 6-1 at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. For Toronto, Keith Aucoin scored two goals and added an assist while Nazem Kadri had four assists. Robert Mayer made 19 saves in picking up the loss while Aaron Palushaj scored the lone goal for Hamilton. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VQE0zapPes ICECAPS NOTES QUICK HITS The IceCaps set a new club record for shots in one period with 22 in the third period of Saturday night’s game vs. Albany. The previous record was 21, set back on Mar. 4 in a 5-2 win at Binghamton….The IceCaps are 5-2-0-0 when scoring first and just 2-6-0-0 when allowing the first goal. Hamilton has scored first just twice in its 13 contests….St. John’s went a combined 0-for-11 last weekend on the power play, including an 0-for-8 performance on Saturday. The club has recorded just two power play goals in its last 56 opportunities, dropping to 26th overall in the league in efficiency (9.9%). STREAKS, MILESTONES and LEADERS Carl Klingberg (1G, 2A) and Eric O’Dell (1G, 3A) are currently riding three-game point streaks. O’Dell now shares the team lead with 7P in 12GP….Rookie D Will O’Neill has an assist in consecutive games and is tied for second on the club with 5A….Rookie F Ivan Telegin has a point in two straight games (1G, 1A) and is a +4 in the last three contests….Saturday’s game against Albany marked the 46th consecutive regular season sellout at Mile One and 54th overall, including playoffs. BULLDOGS NOTES YOUTH MOVEMENT The Bulldogs have 10 rookies on their roster this season, including leading scorer Brendan Gallagher. The diminutive 20-year-old from Delta, B.C. (he is listed at 5’8), has eight points (5G, 3A) in 13 games. The former fifth round draft choice also brings some sandpaper to his game, ranking second on the team in penalty minutes with 31. FUN FACTS F Zack Stortini made his professional hockey debut with the Toronto Roadrunners in a game versus the St. John’s Maple Leafs at Mile One Centre on April 9, 2004. His 48 penalty minutes are tops on the Bulldogs and his 31 penalty minutes in last Saturday’s loss to Toronto are the highest single-game total in the AHL this season….F Joonas Nattinen made his AHL debut on Oct. 14, 2011 against the IceCaps and recorded his first goal in the Bulldogs’ 4-0 victory….D Jarred Tinordi is the son of former NHL defenceman Mark Tinordi, who played 12 seasons with Minnesota/Dallas and Washington. ROAD WOES The road has not been kind to the Bulldogs so far. The team is just 1-3-0-1 in its first five games away from Copps Coliseum and is winless in its last four, the league’s second longest road winless streak this season. ATLANTIC CANADIAN ROOTS Three current Bulldogs players hail from Atlantic Canada. Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins hails from Edmunston, New Brunswick while forward Darryl Boyce and defenceman Morgan Ellis both call P.E.I. home. Boyce was born in Summerside while Ellis comes from Ellerslie.   WIN A SPECIAL MILITARY JERSEY!
