Manchester sweeps St. John’s; IceCaps host Syracuse Crunch this weekend

Download PDF version

Breakout forwards Eric O’Dell and Kael Mouillierat continued to impress offensively but the IceCaps were unable to take full advantage, dropping a pair of games to the Manchester Monarchs at Mile One Centre this past weekend. Friday, the Monarchs battled back from a trio of two-goal deficits to win 5-4 in a shootout despite a combined seven points from the duo. Saturday’s game was scoreless until Manchester found the twine with just 3.1 seconds left in the second period, and while St. John’s tied things up early in the third, the Monarchs scored a shorthanded goal later in the frame that stood up as the winner in a 4-1 contest. The IceCaps continue their six-game home stand with a pair of games against the East Division leading Syracuse Crunch Friday and Saturday.

Ezekiel fightStormin’ Norman Debuts: F Norm Ezekiel, recalled from the Colorado Eagles (ECHL) on Feb. 19, made his AHL debut last week, playing in all three games. The soon-to-be 22 year old (his birthday is March 17) made his mark in Saturday’s contest vs. MCH, dropping the gloves with Monarchs F Ian O’Connor for his first fight.

O’Dell, Mouillierat a Dynamic Duo: The combination of Eric O’Dell and Kael Mouillierat has given the opposition fits over the past eight games. During that span, both players have notched 11 points, while O’Dell has scored six goals and now sits first on the club with 18 this season. Mouillierat’s 21 assists are tied for tops on the team.

Jets Update: The Jets won two of their three games last week and have moved to within two points of eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Winnipeg defeated the New York Rangers 4-3 and the New Jersey Devils 3-1 before falling to the Washington Capitals 3-0 on Saturday.

Back on the Farm: After Winnipeg G Al Montoya was given a clean bill of health, the Jets sent G Eddie Pasquale back to St. John’s last Wednesday, and the former All-Rookie netminder was thrust right back into action, playing both games on the weekend. Also returning from Winnipeg was D Julian Melchiori, while D Derek Meech was recalled. Neither Pasquale nor Melchiori saw any game action while with the Jets.

Injury Report: Jason King (head), John Albert (upper body), Hunter Tremblay (head), Ivan Telegin (head), Ryan Schnell (lower body), Ben Chiarot (undisclosed), and F Max Macenauer (undisclosed)
