ICECAPS WIN IN RETURN TO MILE ONE
Team splits series with Phantoms; Pirates, Admirals up next
The IceCaps returned to Mile One Centre this past weekend for the first time since exiting the playoffs last May. In front of a boisterous crowd Friday night, the IceCaps defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 2-1 on a third period goal from an unlikely source, defenceman Travis Ramsey. The Phantoms got their revenge Saturday night, storming back from two goals down to edge the IceCaps 4-3. St. John’s welcomes the Portland Pirates and Norfolk Admirals to Mile One Centre this week.

ICE-CAPSules
The First One: Rookie F Ivan Telegin notched his first professional goal with his second period tally Saturday night against Adirondack. The Russian-born winger scored 35 goals last season with Barrie (OHL). In four games this season with St. John’s, Telegin has two points (1G, 1A) with two penalty minutes and a plus-two rating.
Shuffling the deck: Coach Keith McCambridge has used his depth early this season. After the return of John Albert from injury and the insertions of Travis Ramsey and Derek Whitmore this past weekend, every healthy IceCap has now seen game action this season.
Injury Notes: Jason Jaffray, Paul Postma, Ryan Schnell, and Ray Sawada still remain sidelined with various ailments, and they were recently joined by Carl Klingberg and Patrice Cormier. Jaffray appears on track for a return to the lineup on Wednesday when the IceCaps face the Portland Pirates at Mile One Centre.
Firing Away: Through four games, D Zach Redmond has proven that he’s not afraid to fire the puck. Redmond leads all IceCaps skaters with 18 shots and sits in fifth in the AHL amongst defencemen. Redmond’s two goals, both on the power play, are tied for the team lead with Max Macenauer.
Close Calls: The IceCaps have been no stranger to close games so far this season. Three of the team’s four contests have been decided by one goal, with St. John’s coming out on top in two of those games.
Striking First: St. John’s has managed to score first in three of its four games, going 1-2-0-0 in those contests. Last season, the IceCaps went 28-7-1-2 in 38 games when scoring before their opponent.
