St. John’s drops pair of games to Toronto; club to wrap up home slate vs. Portland, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this week

Beginning their final home stand of the season, the IceCaps ran into a hot Toronto Marlies team and dropped both games this past weekend. Friday, St. John’s and Toronto battled to a 2-2 tie through 60 minutes before Greg Scott scored in overtime after exiting the penalty box to give the Marlies a 3-2 win. Saturday, the IceCaps attempted to stage a comeback, scoring with 1:06 left in on the clock to narrow the deficit to 3-2, but the Marlies prevailed 4-2 after an empty-netter by Scott. The IceCaps wrap up the home portion of their 2012-13 season this week with two-game series against the Portland Pirates and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

In his last 15 games, O’Dell has 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points, and is two shy of becoming the first 30-goal scorer in IceCaps history. Saturday, he reached 50 points on the season (in just 52 games), tying him with Spencer Machacek for the club record for points in a season. His 28 goals put him in a tie for fourth in the AHL and first among active skaters.

Lowry Debuts: Youngster Adam Lowry played his first two pro games Friday and Saturday. The 6’5 20-year-old is coming off a terrific campaign with the Swift Current Broncos, where he notched 88 points (45G, 43A) and 102 penalty minutes in 72 games. The third round pick of the Jets in 2011 also served as captain of the Broncos this past season.

Jets Update: The Jets dropped their first three games of the week but got back on track with a huge victory over the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday to keep pace in the tight Eastern Conference playoff race.
