St. John’s releases Montgomery from PTO
The St. John’s IceCaps announced today they have released Mike Montgomery from his professional tryout contract. Montgomery, 25, was assigned to St. John’s last week, but did not play for the IceCaps in games last weekend. He has been returned to the Ontario Reign of the ECHL.
The Lino Lake Minnesota native has played 14 games with the Reign this season, and has spent the last four seasons playing for the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He was captain during the 2010-11 season, when the Bulldogs claimed their first-ever NCAA Championship. In his four seasons with Minnesota-Duluth, the right handed defenceman played in 132 games, scoring 38 points (4g, 34a) and recording 42 penalty minutes.
