St. John’s Add Staff to AHL Club Posted by jac on

Glenn Stanford, Chief Operating Officer and Governor for the St. John’s IceCaps is pleased to announce four new members to the club’s staff, as it prepares for the 2011-12 season.

Don Power joins the club as the Communications Director. Brian Rogers will be the broadcaster. Alain Chabbert is the team’s Athletic Therapist. And Ian Cox is the team’s Equipment Manager.

Power, a native of Outer Cove, brings 25 years of media experience with him to the team. He has worked in print, radio and television, most notably for The Sunday Express, The Express and The Independent newspapers. He covered the AHL’s St. John’s Maple Leafs from 1991 through the team’s departure in 2005. He has been a member of the MolsonCoors St. John’s Athlete of the Year Committee since 1991, and chairman for the past 15 years.

Rogers returns to broadcasting after a six-year hiatus. A former radio DJ and sports reporter at VOCM, Rogers worked for the St. John’s Maple Leafs as their radio announcer for almost a decade. His inimitable style will allow fans of the new St. John’s AHL entity to enjoy both home and away games.

Chabbert joins the team by way of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. The Winnipeg native spent three seasons in the QMJHL as Cape Breton’s Athletic Therapist and Equipment Manager, after graduating from the University of Manitoba.

Cox also graduates from the Quebec league to join the AHL club. The native of Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia, spent three years as Equipment Manager with the Halifax Mooseheads, after spending six seasons in a similar capacity with the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Junior Hockey League. Cox also represented Canada at the World Under-18 Championship in 2010 in Belarus.

President and Chief Executive Officer Danny Williams is pleased with the recent additions.

“We are adding quality people to the staff,” Williams said. “Don has been around hockey and the media for years. Brian is a natural calling hockey games. Alain and Ian are young but already experienced. All four bring enthusiasm and excitement to their new positions.”

Power, Chabbert and Cox have taken up their new positions with the team in recent days. Rogers will join the team in August.
