IceCaps to Make Major Donation to Special Olympics Posted by IceCaps on
For the third year in a row the St. John’s IceCaps will donate $20,000 to Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador and serve as headline sponsor of the Special Olympics Festival, the charity’s primary fundraiser.
The day-long celebration starts 10:30 a.m., tomorrow (Saturday, March 1st) with breakfast at Clovelly Golf Course. The Festival continues into the afternoon with an open house concert, followed by an evening of parties and music that goes late into the night.
The IceCaps’ contribution is made through IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation which have provided more than $1 million in financial and in-kind donations to charitable organizations, province-wide, over the past three seasons.
“The St. John’s IceCaps have been a proud supporter of Special Olympics since our inception in 2011-12,” said Danny Williams, President and CEO of the St. John’s IceCaps. “The courage, talent and commitment exhibited by Special Olympians provide an example to all of us.”
Festival chair Judy Dobbin says the support from IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation enables Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador to provide quality sports programming to more than 600 athletes in 14 community-based clubs.
“Through Special Olympics, these athletes gain self-confidence, develop social skills and enjoy all the benefits associated with physical activity,” says Dobbin. “Once again we thank the IceCaps for helping these athletes be the best they can be.”
