Home opener Friday, October 19
The St. John’s IceCaps hockey club announced today it will play its home opener for the team’s American Hockey League season Friday, October 19.
That was one of six guaranteed home dates provided to the IceCaps by the AHL for the 2012-13 season.
The IceCaps have just recently concluded a hugely successful inaugural season in the AHL, selling out 46 consecutive home games, finishing second in the Eastern Conference, and reaching the Eastern Conference finals.
“Even though our first season just ended, we are already well underway planning for a huge home opening night right here at Mile One on October 19,” said President and CEO Danny Williams. “Our entire organization is working hard to ensure that fans are treated to a first-class hockey night experience are we prepare for season two of the St. John’s IceCaps. After the extraordinary support they showed our team in the last season, we are more committed than ever to giving our fans the experience they deserve not just on opening night, but every game night.
“Bringing the IceCaps from concept to reality took a tremendous amount of work last year, but I was determined to get the right staff in place, attract corporate partners with mutually beneficial agreements and ultimately deliver for our fans. And thanks to the dedicated effort of everyone involved, we achieved our goals. Now, we look forward to even better things to come in season two. I look forward to seeing everyone at Mile One on October 19.”
Other guaranteed home dates are October 20, November 16 and 17 as well as December 7 and 8. All are Friday-Saturday series. Opponents for these dates will not be announced until the complete schedule is released later this summer. The team’s full schedule for 2012-13 is expected to be released in late August.
The IceCaps are the proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets.
