The St. John’s IceCaps (23-31-1-3, 50 PTS) entertain the Syracuse Crunch (34-17-3-4, 75 PTS) Friday and Saturday at Mile One Centre.
LAST GAME: MCH 4 STJ 1 | The Monarchs completed the two-game sweep of the IceCaps with a 4-1 victory at Mile One last Saturday night. Martin Jones was near-perfect, making 37 saves on 38 shots in picking up his second straight win. Linden Vey had a goal and an assist while Tyler Toffoli chipped in with a pair of helpers. Hunter Bishop’s third period shorthanded marker stood as the game-winner. For St. John’s, Aaron Gagnon scored the team’s only goal while Eddie Pasquale faced 21 shots, making 18 saves.
PREVIOUS MATCHUPS: JAN 26: SYR 6 STJ 3 The IceCaps fell victim to the Crunch 6-3 in a wild game at Onondaga War Memorial Arena. Both teams traded blows with goals and fists in a game that saw the teams combine for nine goals and 90 minutes in penalties with three lead changes. Alex Killorn had two goals and an assist, including the game-winner early in the third period, while Richard Panik had a goal and two assists. QUICK HITS: The IceCaps came back from four goals down to defeat the Crunch 5-4 in OT on Dec. 29… The line of Eric O’Dell, Kael Mouillierat and Carl Klingberg has combined for seven points in two games against SYR… O’Dell and Mouillierat have notched 11 points over the last eight games, while O’Dell has scored six goals over that span and now sits first on the club with 18. Mouillierat’s 21 assists are tied for tops on the team… Norm Ezekiel, recalled from the Colorado Eagles (ECHL) on Feb. 19, made his AHL debut last week, playing in all three games. The soon-to-be 22 year old (his birthday is March 17) made his mark in last Saturday’s contest vs. MCH, dropping the gloves with Ian O’Connor for his first fight… STJ is 9-10-0-3 in the first of back-to-back games and 6-5-0-2 on Friday nights… The IceCaps are 17-12-0-3 when scoring a PP goal but only 6-28-0-2 when allowing a PP goal… STJ is 7-7-0-1 vs. the East Division.

RECENT ACTION: FEB 24: POR 4 MCH 3 (OT) | The Crunch were defeated by the Toronto Marlies 6-3 Wednesday at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. Syracuse outshot Toronto 43 to 19 but Marlies’ goaltender Drew MacIntyre made 40 saves and Toronto scored three power-play goals en route to victory. The Crunch managed just one goal on seven power-play chances. The loss marked the first time the Crunch have lost four consecutive games this season.
QUICK HITS: Brett Connolly has 17 points in his last 17 games… Alex Killorn, who has 3G and 5PTS in two games vs. STJ this season, is currently on recall to Tampa Bay. Despite having played just 44 games, Killorn still ranks 7th in rookie scoring with 38 PTS (16G, 22A)… Tyler Johnson ranks 1st in the AHL in goals (29) and 2nd in points (55) while Connolly sits 6th with 51 PTS (23G, 28A)… Radko Gudas ranks 3rd in the league in PIM and first in +/- rating. Four of the top five skaters in terms of +/- play for the Crunch: Gudas, Ondrej Palat (on recall), Johnson, and Dmitry Korobov… Mark Barberio is 2nd among AHL defencemen in scoring with 37PTS (8G, 29A)… Vladislav Namestnikov is the son of former NHL-er John Namestnikov, who played for the Vancouver Canucks. His two uncles, Slava Kozlov and Ivan Novoseltsev, both played in the NHL as well. Kozlov is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Detroit Red Wings (1997 and 1998).
