The IceCaps (29-34-2-4, 64 PTS) host the Portland Pirates (38-26-3-2, 81 PTS) Tuesday at Mile One Centre in an Atlantic Division battle.

LAST GAME: APR 6: TOR 4 STJ 2 | The IceCaps dropped their second straight against the Toronto Marlies Saturday night in a 4-2 loss at Mile One Centre. Despite a late push, the IceCaps fell short in the end in suffering their 18th loss on home ice this season. Eric O’Dell had two goals, pushing his team-lead to 28, while Eddie Pasquale provided a solid effort between the pipes for St. John’s, making 31 saves. Spencer Abbott notched the winner for Toronto and Garret Sparks made 23 saves in his first professional start to capture the victory.

The win gave Springfield the Northeast Division title, while dropping the Pirates to 3 points back of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for 5th in the Eastern Conference. Andy Miele had both goals for the Pirates while Mike Lee made 29 saves on 33 shots.

QUICK HITS: Portland’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot is seven points… The Pirates clinched the first ever VIP Cup with a 4-2 win over the Manchester Monarchs last week. The VIP is awarded to the winner of the season series between the Pirates and Monarchs, which Portland won with a 7-5 record… F Andy Miele had three points last weekend to run his point streak to four games (4G, 4A)… F Justin Feser tallied his first professional point, an assist, in his first game last Friday night… The Pirates signed St. John’s native D James Melindy to an ATO last week, joining assistant coach John Slaney as the second Newfoundlander with the Pirates organization. Melindy, 20, had a stellar season with the Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL), posting 24 points (4G, 20A) and a +13 rating in 67 games. The 6’3 rearguard was selected in the third round (88th overall) by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
