The St. John’s IceCaps (24-32-1-4, 53 PTS) look to sweep the Hamilton Bulldogs (24-30-1-5, 54 PTS) Saturday at Mile One Centre in a special St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

LAST NIGHT: STJ 5 HAM 0 | The IceCaps took it to the Bulldogs from start to finish in a resounding 5-0 win. St. John’s scored three times in the opening 10 minutes of the game, chasing Bulldogs starter Robert Mayer and ending its eight-game home losing streak to pick up its 10th win of the season at Mile One. Aaron Gagnon extended his point streak to six games with a goal and an assist while Eric O’Dell also had a goal and an assist. INJURY REPORT: F John Albert is out indefinitely after breaking his hand blocking a shot last Friday night. Albert was making his return to the lineup after missing the previous 14 contests with an upper body injury, and has missed 34 of the IceCaps’ 61 games this season. Also injured: F Jason King (head), F Hunter Tremblay (head), F Ivan Telegin (head), and F Ryan Schnell (lower body).

QUICK HITS: F Aaron Gagnon extended his point streak to six games last night, which is the longest such streak by an IceCap this season. D Paul Postma’s 10-game streak last season stands as the longest in team history… F Eric O’Dell temporarily took over the team scoring lead with his two points Friday, but F Jason Jaffray’s power play goal in the second gave him a share of the lead at 35 points… F Tomas Kubalik and D Patrick Cullity made their IceCaps debuts Friday. Kubalik picked up an assist on O’Dell’s first period marker… Ben Maxwell has seven points in his last eight games (2G, 5A)… Newly acquired D Patrick Cullity was teammates with F Kael Mouillierat earlier this season with Idaho (ECHL) and played with D Josh Godfrey in 2010-11 with South Carolina (ECHL). Cullity also teamed with G Mark Dekanich last season in Springfield… In their last series at Mile One on Nov. 21 and 22, the IceCaps and Bulldogs combined for just seven goals in total… St. John’s improved to 7-6-0-1 vs. Hamilton all-time with last night’s win… The IceCaps will wear special green St. Patrick’s Day jerseys tonight.

RECENT ACTION: MAR 10: GR 4 HAM 1 | The Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-1 last Sunday evening at Copps Coliseum.  Gustav Nyquist scored a goal and added two assists and Riley Sheahan notched the game-winner. Michael Blunden scored the lone Bulldogs’ goal while Robert Mayer faced a barrage of shots, making 44 saves on 48 shots.

QUICK HITS: The Montreal Canadiens announced Wednesday that F Blake Geoffrion has retired from professional hockey due to his current health condition, which has shown no significant improvement since he underwent surgery last November 10. Geoffrion, 25, suffered a depressed skull fracture on November 9, 2012 in an AHL game between the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Syracuse Crunch at the Bell Centre… F Petteri Nokelainen, assigned to Hamilton by Montreal, made his season debut Friday. Nokelainen is a veteran of 245 NHL games with the New York Islanders, Boston Bruins, Anaheim Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes and Montreal Canadiens… Bulldogs G Dustin Tokarski, acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning organization for G Cedrick Desjardins on Feb. 14, took a no decision in his only game vs. St. John’s this season on Jan. 26 as a member of the Syracuse Crunch. Tokarski came on in relief of Robert Mayer last night and stopped 24-of-26 shots… All-time, the Bulldogs have scored just 1.86 goals per game in seven contests vs. the IceCaps at Mile One Centre and have been shut out in two of their last four outings dating back to last season… Hamilton fell to 8-18-0-3 on the road with last night’s loss.
