The St. John’s IceCaps (21-23-1-2, 45 PTS) look to avenge last night’s tough loss in a rematch against the Worcester Sharks (21-18-1-5, 48 PTS) Wednesday, the finale of a two-game set at Mile One Centre.
LAST NIGHT: The IceCaps suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Worcester Sharks Tuesday night at Mile One. Worcester scored two goals in the final 3:18 of the third period to hand St. John’s its first home loss since Jan. 12. Daniil Tarasov scored two goals, including the game-winner with 1:31 to go in regulation, as the Sharks snapped a three-game losing skid. Bracken Kearns notched a goal and two assists while Tim Kennedy registered three helpers. Harri Sateri made 30 saves for the win. Jason Jaffray potted both goals for St. John’s – one shorthanded and one on the power play – to provide the IceCaps’ only offence. PREVIOUS MATCHUPS: Nov. 3: STJ 3 WOR 2 | Paul Postma snapped a shot past Harry Sateri to give the IceCaps a 3-2 overtime victory over the Worcester Sharks at the DCU Center. Postma, in just his second game of the season, took a pass from Jason King at the top of the faceoff circle and fired a shot past Sateri for the game winner. King had done yeoman’s work digging for the puck before getting it to Postma. Jason Jaffray was also awarded an assist on the game-winner. Mark Dekanich stopped 16 shots for the victory. RECAP

QUICK HITS: STJ is 6-5-1-1 in games after a home loss and 8-9-1-0 in the second of back-to-back games this season… The IceCaps are just 1-6 in Wednesday games… Former IceCaps Zach Redmond and Paul Postma reached significant NHL milestones this past week with the Winnipeg Jets. Redmond suited up in his first NHL game last Thursday at FLA and played nearly 21 minutes, finishing with three shots and a +1 rating. The Michigan native picked up his first points (2A) last night in a 3-2 OT win vs. FLA, including a helper on the game-winning goal in the extra frame. Postma notched his first NHL goal (a power play tally) Feb. 1 at TB and added two assists for his first career multi-point effort, factoring in on all three WPG goals… STJ is just 1-4 all-time vs. WOR at Mile One Centre… STJ set a team record for most penalty minutes in a game almost one year ago to the day against WOR. On Feb. 4, 2012, STJ recorded 48 minutes in penalties, while the teams combined for 112, both IceCaps franchise highs… F Ben Maxwell had seven points (1G, 6A) in six games vs. WOR last season… G Eddie Pasquale was a perfect 4-0 vs. WOR last season and posted a 1.75 GAA with a .941 SV%.
INJURY REPORT: F Hunter Tremblay returned to action this past weekend after a lengthy layoff with concussion-like symptoms. Tremblay had missed 26 consecutive games and 31 in total. F John Albert (upper body) re-aggravated a prior injury and has missed the last three games. Also injured: Jason King (head), Aaron Gagnon (undisclosed), Shawn Weller (finger), and Ivan Telegin (undisclosed).
STREAKS AND LEADERS: F Eric O’Dell, who saw his three-game point streak come to an end Tuesday, has scored game-winning goals in the IceCaps’ last two victories and has scored six goals in his last five home games. O’Dell’s 21.8% shooting percentage ranks sixth amongst active AHL players while his five first goals are tied for second in the league… F Jason Jaffray snapped an eight-game goalless draught with his two tallies last night (one shorthanded and one on the power play)… G Eddie Pasquale has started 11 straight games for St. John’s and 12-of-13 since the calendar turned to 2013. Last season, Pasquale’s best month was February, when he compiled six wins, a 1.58 GAA and a .936 SV%.

RECENT ACTION: Feb. 2: PRO 2 WOR 0 | The Worcester Sharks fell to the division rival Providence Bruins 2-0 on Saturday evening in front of 7,966 fans at the DCU Center. The game marked the annual Pink in the Rink game, benefitting the Cup Crusaders. Niklas Svedberg made 26 saves on 26 shots for Providence while Alex Stalock made 23 saves on 24 shots for Worcester. The Sharks went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Providence also went 0-for-3. Taylor Doherty (inj), Sena Acolatse (inj), Yanni Gourde (scr), Mike Brennan (scr), Mike Banwell (inj), and Jimmy Bonneau (inj) did not dress for Worcester.
QUICK HITS: WOR is just 2-5-0-3 in its last 10 games and has scored three goals or fewer in each game… F Bracken Kearns, who notched three points in Tuesday’s win over the IceCaps, is the son of former Vancouver Canucks D Dennis Kearns. Dennis played 677 games with the Canucks, notching 321 career points, and remains the club’s all-time leader in assists by a defenceman (290)… G Harri Sateri has won three of four starts at Mile One Centre in his career… Sateri’s 50 saves on Dec. 2 in a 3-2 shootout win over PRO are tied for a single-game high in the AHL this season… F Sebastian Stalberg is the brother of current Chicago Blackhawks F Viktor Stalberg. The brothers hail from Gothenburg, Sweden, also the birthplace of IceCaps F Carl Klingberg… Among active Sharks players who played with the club last season vs. STJ, F John McCarthy led his team with five points (1G, 4A) in five games played… The Sharks have allowed three shorthanded goals on the road this season, 10th most in the AHL… WOR is 0-1 in its only Tuesday game this season… F Tim Kennedy had a six-game road scoring streak from Nov. 14 to Dec. 9 during which he scored eight goals.
