The IceCaps begin their final home stand of the season Friday night against the Toronto Marlies at Mile One Centre.

PREVIOUS MATCHUPS: FEB 24: TOR 5 STJ 4 The IceCaps were defeated by the Marlies 5-4 at Ricoh Coliseum. Despite spotting the Marlies leads of 4-0 and 5-1, the IceCaps nearly made an incredible comeback, battling back to score three times in third period but ultimately falling just short. The Marlies scored five times in the second period with first star Jake Gardiner factoring in on three of those tallies, scoring on the power play and adding two assists. For St. John’s, Kael Mouillierat had a goal and two assists and Dean Arsene had two helpers. LAST GAME: STJ 5 WOR 4 (OT) | The IceCaps snatched victory from the jaws of defeat last Saturday night in Worcester, coming back from a two-goal deficit to win 5-4 in overtime over the Sharks. Ben Maxwell, celebrating his 25th birthday, scored the tying goal with 53 seconds left in regulation and notched the game-winner just 23 seconds into the extra frame. Maxwell finished the night with two goals and an assist, while Will O’Neill and Aaron Gagnon each had a goal and an assist. Eddie Pasquale made 30 saves in the victory, the fourth in a row for St. John’s and sixth in its last seven.

QUICK HITS: The IceCaps enter Friday’s game on a season-high four-game winning streak and have won six-of-seven overall. After losing the first four games in March, the club rebounded to finish 6-3-0-2 the rest of the way, their best month of the season to-date… F Aaron Gagnon was named CCM/AHL Player of the Month for his impressive showing in March. Gagnon recorded a point in each of his team’s 11 games (9-9-18), scored three power play goals and three game-winning goals, and added a pair of shorthanded tallies. Gagnon was rewarded this week with a recall to Winnipeg… The IceCaps have a shorthanded goal in two straight games and three of their last four… During the last seven games, the power play is 9-for-41 (22.0%) while the penalty kill is 23-for-25 (92.0%)… F Ben Maxwell has a three-game point streak (4-3-7, +4)… F Eric O’Dell also had a fantastic March, notching 18 points (9G, 9A) and winning CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 17 (3-2-5, +3)… STJ is 5-6-1-0 vs. TOR all-time and 2-3-1-0 at Mile One… The IceCaps will tangle with the Marlies four times in the club’s final nine games of the season. After this weekend’s two-game series, the teams will meet in Toronto Apr. 20-21 for a two-game set at Ricoh Coliseum.

RECENT ACTION: APR 3: LE 3 TOR 2 | The Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Toronto Marlies by a score of 3-2 in overtime Wednesday morning at Ricoh Coliseum. Toronto outshot Lake Erie 37-29 and received goals from Jerry D’Amigo and Sam Carrick. Mark Owuya took the loss. Toronto went 0-for-2 on the powerplay and 0-for-2 on the penalty kill.

QUICK HITS: The Marlies enter play Friday having recorded at least a point in nine of their last 10 games… Toronto’s top three scorers vs. St. John’s – Keith Aucoin, Ryan Hamilton, and Joe Colborne – are all no longer with the club. Aucoin was picked up on waivers by the New York Islanders in January while Hamilton and Colborne are on recall to the Maple Leafs… Toronto added three OHL players to its roster this past week, signing G Garret Sparks, F David Broll, and D Stuart Percy. Sparks played 60 of 68 games with Guelph, notching 36 wins and a .917 SV%. Broll picked up 54 points in 67 games with Sault Ste. Marie as well as 77 penalty minutes, while Percy served as captain of the Mississauga Steelheads and produced 45 points in 68 games… Five of the Marlies’ last seven games have gone to overtime or a shootout.
