The IceCaps (30-34-2-4, 66 PTS) look to sweep the Portland Pirates (38-27-3-2, 81 PTS) Wednesday at Mile One Centre in the last of eight meetings this season.

LAST NIGHT: APR 9: STJ 3 POR 2 | The IceCaps edged the Pirates 3-2 last night in the first of two meetings this week at Mile One Centre between the Atlantic Division rivals. Mark Dekanich was the story for St. John’s, making 30 saves and shutting the door on the Pirates in the closing minutes of regulation. Ray Sawada scored the winner midway through the third while Cody Sol and Josh Lunden added tallies for the home team. Dekanich helped the IceCaps hold Portland’s power play at bay, which went just 1-for-6 on the night. St. John’s managed a goal on five opportunities with the man advantage. RECAP | HIGHLIGHTS

QUICK HITS: F Eric O’Dell surpassed Spencer Machacek’s club record for points in a season with an assist last night, giving him 51 points (28G, 23A). O’Dell has been hot in the last 16 games, scoring 15 goals and adding 11 assists for 26 points. He ranks tied for fourth in the AHL in goals (28) and tied for first among active players. O’Dell has seven multi-goal games this season and is two goals shy of becoming the first IceCap to his 30 in a season… D Cody Sol scored his first AHL goal last night. Assisting on the goal were rookie forwards Vinny Saponari and Matthew Kirzinger, their first AHL points… F Adam Lowry made his pro debut last weekend, suiting up in both games… G Mark Dekanich has won six of his last eight starts and has stopped 70-of-75 shots (.933 SV%) in his last two outings… F Kael Mouillierat is riding a four-game point streak (1G, 4A) and has points in six of his last seven games (2G, 5A). RECENT ACTION: APR 7: SPR 4 POR 2 | The Portland Pirates fell to the Springfield Falcons 4-2 in front of 5,412 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Sunday afternoon. The win gave Springfield the Northeast Division title, while dropping the Pirates to 3 points back of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for 5th in the Eastern Conference. Andy Miele had both goals for the Pirates while Mike Lee made 29 saves on 33 shots.

The Swedish rearguard will join the team in time for tonight’s game… The Pirates signed St. John’s native D James Melindy to an ATO last week, joining assistant coach John Slaney as the second Newfoundlander with the Pirates organization. Melindy, 20, had a stellar season with the Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL), posting 24 points (4G, 20A) and a +13 rating in 67 games. The 6’3 rearguard was selected in the third round (88th overall) by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
