Game Day: IceCaps and Senators battle again at Mile One Posted by IceCaps on

The St. John’s IceCaps (20-22-1-2, 43 PTS) conclude a two-game set with the Binghamton Senators (27-11-1-3, 58 PTS) Saturday at Mile One Centre looking to extend their home winning streak to a season-high three games.

LAST NIGHT: STJ 4 BNG 2 | Eric O’Dell netted two goals, including the game-winner, as the IceCaps defeated the Senators 4-2 Friday night. O’Dell’s late second period marker stood up as the deciding goal, while Kael Mouillierat notched a goal and two assists in the win. Kevin Clark had a goal and an assist and Carl Klingberg chipped in with a pair of helpers. Eddie Pasquale was not busy for St. John’s but was solid when called upon, stopping 21-of-23 shots for his 13th win of the season. In the Binghamton crease, Robin Lehner made 30 saves in picking up just his sixth loss of the season.

SEASON SERIES (STJ 2-1): Jan. 21: STJ 3 BNG 2 | The IceCaps came away with a 3-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators in a rare Monday night game at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Kael Mouillierat and Jason Gregoire scored in the final frame while Eddie Pasquale was sharp, making 32 saves for his 11th victory of the season.

Dec. 31: BNG 4 STJ 2 | Four different players scored for the Senators as they defeated the IceCaps 4-2 in a New Year’s Eve tilt in New York. Mike Hoffman, Shane Prince, Derek Grant and Mark Stone (into an empty net) gave the Senators their 19th victory of the season. For the IceCaps it was Maxime Macenauer scoring early and Paul Postma late, as the club finished its tough eight-game road trip on a losing note.

When scoring first, the IceCaps are 14-7-0-1. The club is 10-0-0-1 when leading after two periods… STJ is unbeaten at home against BNG in three career matchups, outscoring the Senators 14-8 and scoring at least four goals in each of the three contests… F Kael Mouillierat was signed to an AHL contract last Friday after originally signing a 25-game tryout contract back in early December. The 25-year old has notched 16 points (5G, 11A) in 23 games with St. John’s, including a three-point performance (1G, 2A) in last night’s victory… Four of the five teams in the Atlantic Division have a negative goal differential. Manchester (plus-four) is the only team that has scored more goals than it has allowed… The IceCaps’ record for most shots in a period was set in a game nearly one year ago against the Senators at Mile One. On Feb. 11, 2012, STJ fired 23 shots on Senators netminder Robin Lehner in the third period of a 4-3 comeback win.

INJURY REPORT
F Hunter Tremblay returned to the lineup last night after missing the previous 26 games with a concussion. John Albert (upper body) re-aggravated an injury originally sustained earlier this season and did not play Friday. Albert is questionable for tonight’s game. Also injured: Jason King (head), Ivan Telegin (undisclosed), Shawn Weller (finger), Aaron Gagnon (undisclosed).

STREAKS and LEADERS
F Kael Mouillierat has a three-game point streak during which he has recorded six points (2G, 4A). Mouillierat’s three-point game Friday was the fifth three-point performance by an IceCap this season… F Carl Klingberg has a two-game assist streak (3A total)… F Eric O’Dell has a point in consecutive games (2G, 1A)… St. John’s has scored a power play goal in three straight games and is 4-for-18 (22.2%) during that span… STJ tied a season-high with eight power play opportunities in last night’s win. The franchise record for most power plays in a game is 11, set on Oct. 25, 2011 vs. POR in a 5-1 win.

SENATORS NOTES

RECENT ACTION
Jan. 26: BNG 3 HER 2
The Senators defeated the Hershey Bears in a shootout last Saturday, 3-2, in their second consecutive win of that nature. Mike Hoffman and Mark Stone scored in regulation while Mika Zibanejad, Stephane Da Costa and Jack Downing all beat Bears’ goaltender Dany Sabourin in the shootout. Robin Lehner made 38 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped all three Hershey shooters in the shootout.

QUICK HITS
G Robin Lehner was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 27, 2013. Lehner was 2-0-0 with a 0.92 goals-against average and a .975 save percentage in two starts last week. In last night’s 4-2 loss, Lehner allowed more than three goals for just the fourth time in 24 games played this season.… F Derek Grant leads the AHL with five shorthanded goals and sits second with five shorthanded points. Two of Grant’s shorthanded markers have come against the IceCaps… D Kyle Bushee, who was just signed to a PTO by the Senators, played in eight games with the IceCaps last season, recording three points (1G, 2A) and six penalty minutes… D Eric Gryba’s +23 rating is tied for first in the AHL.
