The IceCaps (31-35-2-4, 68 PTS) finish their home schedule Sunday afternoon looking to split the two-game series with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (41-28-2-2, 86 PTS).

LAST NIGHT: WBS 3 STJ 0 | The IceCaps were shut out 3-0 by the visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday night at Mile One Centre. Jeff Zatkoff needed to make just 18 saves for the shutout, while Dominik Oher scored twice to pace the Penguins. Bobby Farnham added a pair of assists as the Penguins punched their ticket to the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs with the win. Mark Dekanich made 16 saves for St. John’s while Eric O’Dell, Kael Mouillierat and Will O’Neill led the club with three shots apiece. RECAP | HIGHLIGHTS

QUICK HITS: The IceCaps were officially eliminated from playoff contention with last night’s loss…  F Kael Mouillierat and F Eric O’Dell saw their five-and four-game point streaks snapped, respectively… The IceCaps acquired F Mathieu Tousignant on loan from the Texas Stars Wednesday. The 23-year-old has played in 176 career AHL games, all with the Stars, collecting 38 points (17G, 21A) and 224 penalty minutes. Tousignant made his IceCaps debut last night, recording seven minutes in penalties including a spirited fight with the Penguins’ Zach Sill… F Vinny Saponari notched his first career goal in the second period of Wednesday’s game. F Adam Lowry picked up an assist on the play, his first career point. Lowry was recognized for his strong play in Saturday night’s loss with a third star selection… F Carl Klingberg’s goal Wednesday was his first in the last 12 games… G Mark Dekanich has just three losses in his last 10 starts… St. John’s has been shut out eight times this season and is 4-3 in games following a shutout loss… The IceCaps are 5-5-0-0 in Sunday afternoon games this season… St. John’s in winless all-time in three regular season meetings (0-2-1-0) with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Mile One Centre.

QUICK HITS: WBS extended its winning streak to six games and clinched a berth in the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs with last night’s win. The Penguins have not lost in regulation in their last eight outings (7-0-0-1)… G Jeff Zatkoff recorded his fifth shutout of the season last night and has not allowed more than two goals in seven consecutive starts while going 7-1-0.  He leads the AHL with a 1.91 goals against average and has won six in a row… The Penguins acquired F Derek Nesbitt from Peoria prior to the AHL’s loan and trade deadline on Wednesday. The veteran of 319 AHL games was leading the Riverman in goals with 26 and was second in points with 47… The Penguins held the IceCaps to just 18 shots on goal Saturday, one week after holding the Albany Devils to just 11 shots on goal, a season low… The line of Trevor Smith (5G, 8A), Riley Holzapfel (3G, 9A) and Chad Kolarik (6G, 8A) has combined for 39 points over the Penguins’ last 12 games, including two assists last night. Holzapfel spent part of the 2011-12 season with St. John’s, playing in 29 games before being traded to the Syracuse Crunch (Anaheim Ducks) for F Max Macenauer… WBS ranks first in the AHL in GAA, second in shots allowed, and second in penalty killing.
