Colorado Eagles Renew Affiliation with Winnipeg Jets & St. John’s IceCaps
LOVELAND, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL, along with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League & the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League, are proud to announce an extension of their affiliation partnership through the 2012-13 season.
“We are excited to continue our partnership with the Colorado Eagles as an affiliate for the upcoming season,” said Craig Heisinger, Senior Vice President & Director of Hockey Operations/Assistant General Manager of the Winnipeg Jets. “Player development is one of the most important elements for long term success for an organization and we know Colorado will provide a great opportunity for some of our young players to gain valuable experience and new skills.”
The Eagles completed their first season in the ECHL with a record of 38-28-6 (82 points), good for 2nd place in the Western Conference’s Mountain Division behind the defending champion Alaska Aces and a 4th-seeded playoff berth. Their roster was home to the ECHL’s MVP (Chad Costello), Defenseman of the Year (Aaron Schneekloth), Sportsmanship Award recipient (Kevin Ulanski) and wins leader (Kyle Jones). Winnipeg prospects Akim Aliu, Chris Carrozzi, Ben Chiarot, Michael Forney, Jake Marto & Tommy Maxwell all spent time on the Eagles’ roster in 2011-12.
“Our first season as an affiliate of the Jets & IceCaps went very well and we look forward to continuing those relationships,” said Chris Stewart, President & General Manager of the Colorado Eagles. “We’re honored that those teams consider our organization a quality place for their prospects to develop and we hope to provide them with a first-class, competitive environment in which to do so as we strive to win the Kelly Cup championship.”
