Buddy’s Book Club Back for Another Summer Posted by IceCaps on
The St. John’s IceCaps Hockey Club launched the second annual Buddy’s Book Club – Summer Edition, Presented by Statoil, today at Elizabeth Park Elementary School in Paradise.
A means to promote reading during the summer months, Buddy’s Book Club members are encouraged to read for 20 minutes a day during the school vacation period. By reading as little as 20 minutes a day, each child will accumulate 20 hours of reading during the summer.
“The St. John’s IceCaps are pleased and proud to partner once again with Statoil to promote Buddy’s Book Club,” said team President and CEO Danny Williams.
“The benefits of reading are varied and life-long. As we know, reading fosters academic achievement, communication and concentration skills, discipline…the list goes on. Summer vacation provides a great opportunity to devote some extra time to appreciate the joy of reading. We were quite pleased that so many young people joined Buddy’s club last summer and we hope for even greater participation this year.”
Buddy’s Book Club enables students and their parents to download a reading tracking sheet from the IceCaps website to follow their progress. Participants will be eligible for various prize packages through the hockey club. As part of this summer’s launch, IceCaps player Jason King and Buddy the Puffin were on site to explain the program.
Once again, the support of Statoil is essential to the success of the program and they are proud to sponsor Buddy’s Book Club for the second year in a row.
“Our imaginations and knowledge of the world around us is supported by a love of reading,” said Atle Aadland, Statoil’s Vice President, Offshore Upstream. “Our youth are our Heroes of Tomorrow and we’re proud to help youth develop their talents, creativity and imaginations through reading.”
Participants can register through www.stjohnsicecaps.com and will be eligible for numerous prizes, to be announced at a later date.
